White Rice Done Right
Yes, I made a video on boring old white rice. Why? Well, it seems lots of folks are having a tough time with this. Heck, it takes some technique! Here’s everything you need to perfect this staple.
Spoiler alert: you’re going to need a rice cooker!
Ingredients
(serves 4+ with leftovers to use for a killer fried rice the next day)
2 cups rice
2 cups water*
2 tsp. salt
*Every rice cooker and type of rice is different, so I recommend following the rice/water ratio indicated on your rice’s packaging, and then reducing or increasing water ratio based on results.
Instructions:
Thoroughly rinse your rice in cold water, repeating 3-4 times until rinse water runs clear.
Let your rice soak for 20-30 minutes before doing one final rinse. Drain thoroughly, then measure out and pour in water.
Sprinkle salt over the rice and start your rice cooker.
When rice cooker is done, gently fluff rice with a fork and let it rest for at least another 10 minutes (ideally longer) before serving.
